A New Journey

big_thumb_9f320753dffa88fb02cb20a22693b119I made a commitment, a commitment to myself that I would not live as I had in my previous 25 years of life. It was midway point of sorts, the very middle of my twenties and from my perspective, I hadn’t reached my the level of consistency that I had imagined.

I know.

Things do not always go as you planned them to, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t hold myself to those standards and you may do the same thing. I live mainly in my mind, allowing few to enter and that is a flaw. It is something that I promised to work on; to allow my thoughts to flow more freely outward. I may write a blog every few months, once or twice a year, though I always have thought about it. I think it’s a common struggle, procrastination or just finding a reason to not do something when you have the impulse to do it. Though I understand this, I hope that through a renewed purpose in life, I can find the consistency that I’ve wanted, but yet to strive for entirely. It’s a journey that I won’t travel alone and one that I certainly share. After all, life really has no script and I’m still writing mine on the go, but this time I’ll actually sit down and map out what I want it to look like.

…Until next time

Noah Caine: New York City’s Best Kept Secret

Coming out of Southside Jamaica, Queens, we bring to you Noah Caine, the hardworking hip-hop artist that is looking to shoulder the game and showcase yet another lyrical talent from the famed borough that has produced some of the greatest talents the game has ever seen. To name a few, we’ve seen Nas, Rakim, Mc Shan, LL, and various others represent to the fullest.

First off let’s talk about Queens — You’ve previously said that “people sleep on Queens”… Out of all of the MCs that come from Queens, who has influenced you the most as an artist and how do you see yourself paving your OWN way in today’s music industry, especially being from NYC?

Thanks for having me, I appreciate the interview man. A ton of MCs came out of Queens man, for real, I’m just happy to be noticed for carrying the torch so early in my career. As far as my greatest influences? I couldn’t just pick one, I’d have to definitely credit Nas and being from Southside, I have to include 50 Cent as well. Nas inspires me for his longevity in the game, founded off of his debut classic, it’s incredible to see a body of work stand the test of time for over 20 years. 50 Cent has inspired me to be about my business at all times.  Through watching the way he handles his situations, which I don’t always agree with, I’ve learned how to approach endeavors of my own. You’ve really got to learn from the successes, as well as mistakes, of your idols. With careers as long as theirs, you’re bound to learn a lot. Haha.

Noah, [the] boy who “met the world, without Mr.Feeny”. Can you elaborate on that line in terms of your life and the lessons you’ve learned? Who is Noah Caine?

Haha, that’s from The Genesis joint off my first project. Respect to you for quoting that. Basically what that line meant is that growing up in a single parent household, I never really had the ability to get all my smarts from home. Sometimes, as young men in the inner city, the streets raise us. It teaches us certain things that you’ll never be able to pick up from the safety of your own home. Seeing people get shot, violence, being around gunfire and narrowly missing bullets myself, those are things that you just have to smarten up to and learn how to deal with or else you’re outta here. Noah Caine is a product of that and you can definitely hear those accounts in the music. On the other hand in reference to the TV show, there are no “Mr. Feenys” in the hood. There are a lot of characters, but I never really came into contact with someone like that pure-hearted, extra father figure, dude portrayed on that TV show, I guess that’s why it’s a TV show.  He doesn’t really exist.

As you gain more publicity, more people are starting to check for your music, you tend to live by and embrace the motto “steady to the top”, can you detail what brought about that motto? How are you handling the increase in supporters of your music?

That motto, saying, mantra, -whatever you want to call it, came from a point in time where my team and I just felt lost in the whole process of making music. We were all seriously about to just quit and put our energies into other endeavors. One of my boys wanted to work for the government, another wanted to travel and see the world, I wanted to focus more on going to college. It was just like “well, this isn’t popping, let’s do something else”. We couldn’t leave it alone though, and we realized that we were being impatient because we believed in ourselves 100% and wanted people to embrace our talents instantly. As we learned the game, we realized that nothing comes that easily, so I think I just started saying “Steady to the top” in a lot of our meetings and convos when we were just kicking it and it stuck. We’re all here now, we ain’t quit and the music is getting more attention every day.

As far as the increase in fans I think it’s a gift and a curse. I get a lot of people telling me that they relate enough to understand my story, but are still curious to see where I’m going with it, that’s dope. On the flip side, I feel like if I ever quit I’d be letting a lot of people, who use my story for their own personal escape or release, down. I’ve realized that a lot of young cats have no voice, not everybody Raps or has the means to Rap, so they use the dudes who are talented as motivation and when you quit, to your fans it’s like their best homie just died. That’s a weight I gotta carry.

As mentioned, your fist mixtape “The Pre-Season” was well received and quite frankly it was a breath of fresh air to the game. How are you doing fam, mentally and physically? To date, what has been your greatest motivation to keep grinding?

Good looking out, haha! I rarely have interviews where they ask the artist like, really, how are you doing? I’m great though man, I can’t complain just trying to get this foundation built to get some more traction in this game. I’m in a mental state of peace and positivity, there’s always negativity around but you have to try and avoid it. I recently lost a big influence in my life, my uncle, and that really messed me up. He was the one who really influenced me to start rapping at a young age, man. It was hard but I gotta keep going in memory of him. That’s my greatest motivation at the moment, to just keep creating through the hard times to get a better knowledge of who I am and how I put together my perception of life in general. It’s therapeutic. Rest in peace Big Vin.

Speaking of The Pre-Season – In “The Crown”, you say “I’ll bring it all to you and never fall back..cause opportunity knocks, but never calls back” Do you feel as though it’s your time, that opportunity is knocking? Talk about your upcoming projects and when can we expect them?

I most definitely feel like we all got a calling. I feel that you’ll be shown your way, your path. You can’t fight it, because if you do you’ll have a harder time on this Earth going against the plan that the higher power has intended for you. That’s real. I feel like it’s just my path man, things are lining up and more people are putting me on their radar on a higher level. I’ve had some conversations with people high up in the industry who support my talents and that’s just the way it goes when there’s a path for you and you follow it with positivity and realness.

My next project out it a continuation of the last project. It’s called “Rookie Season” and it’s produced by Half Amazin’. There’s a lot of energy on this new joint and it was really, really dope to make despite all the ups and downs I’ve been going through personally. It’s dope, for real. The people are gonna fuck with it.

Let’s go ahead and speak it into existence, where you do you envision your career a year or 2, possibly even 5 years from now?

5, 10, 15 years from now I’m going to still be telling my story as it evolves. People are still going to be able to relate to what I’m doing and I’ll definitely always be a beast on the mic…probably a couple of really nice business deals too. I got plans for a few ideas that I’d like to set into motion when the time’s right. People always talk about how great B.I.G or Pac would have been today if they hadn’t passed away and that’s always motivation for me because I want to be as great as they would’ve been if they were still alive. I guess I use their careers as a source of unlimited inspiration. That “what if” conversation is really inspiring to me as an artist. May they rest in peace.

Where can we find your previous work, upcoming releases, and contact info?

Everything y’all need is on www.NoahCaine.com man. Go grab “The Pre-Season”. Hit me up on Twitter and come out to the next show in NYC or if I’m in your city. It’s been a pleasure man, thanks a lot for reaching out. Much respect. Steady.

Thank you to Noah Caine for the insight to your music and we look forward to much continued success from you.

Wiping the Slate Clean

Let’s think about what wiping the slate clean means.

Everyday we may encounter certain situations that just bring down our moods or take us out of character.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. – Aristotle

You must be able to remove yourself from that negativity and put your mind in a state of balance. It is completely understandable to be upset or have mood changes throughout a period of time, but it cannot define who you truly are. Entertaining a thought without accepting takes patience and it takes a certain type of self-control.

Essentially, you see it, you hear it, you comprehend it, but it is not prevailing.

We all have the ability to maintain the mental balance that is conducive to progression, we rarely ever make a conscious effort to preserve that balance.

I encourage you to wipe the slate clean daily, remove the past and enjoy the present, understand that keeping that balance is key to living a life that keeps you in a forward progression.

Awakening the Mind

Take a second to just embrace this moment, breathe in deep and exhale; without doubt we are alive.

“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, not to anticipate the future, but to awaken and live the present moment wisely, earnestly.”

Despite any situations that may intrude into your lives, steal a moment to breathe and understand that you are alive; your script is yet to be completed. Our bodies are guided through our mental processes and often we allow our daily routines to negatively affect our beings.

We must awaken our minds, practice calming the mental disturbances, and enjoy the now. It may seem foreign, it may seem difficult, or it may even seem useless to some, but this awakens your mental state.

A Hiatus for Perspective: Finding Peace

It should come as no surprise that I take time to write blogs and I say that lightly.

Well, it’s better later than never, right? Yes, it has been a while and for that I have learned so much more than the last time I allowed my mind to flow within the confines of this blog. Consistency is what people look for in a blog, a new post weekly, daily for some. I cannot promise that, but what I can promise is that with each blog that I write, time has brought me so many more lessons.

In my brief hiatus, I believe that as an individual, I have found peace. The phrase often lends itself to times that most expect to part ways with their material lives, but I feel that in life’s lessons, I have grown to accept the challenges. We are prone to worry, becoming frustrated over the unknown, our fate. I understand it completely, our minds race a hundred miles an hour and there is little we can do to prevent this. Personally, what has allowed me to be content with the hand I am dealt daily is the challenge. Challenges are at every turn and they just so happen to break up the monotony of routine in life. Routine, oh yes, many enjoy that and I do too at times, though it can be quite the bore. Naturally, we would live some stability and as we all know, routine brings about a sense of this.  As we look for our individual peace, we tend to just go through the motions. We are essentially breathing, but you cannot say that most are truly living.  The unknown fate keeps us up, it keeps us wondering; what becomes of us today, tomorrow, or in the not-so-close future. So, how can one gain the composure to find such peace?

Preparation.

Simple, right?

That’s what grants me peace to some degree. Of course we cannot prepare for every single challenge that comes our way, nor do we all deal with adversity the same, but mentally we can put ourselves on a plane that can look adversity directly in the face. Everything that we have observed or been through personally prepares us in some way or another. Yet, we panic and feel a sense of fear, even if we’ve seen the situation from afar.

In short, it is okay, but learn to embrace the experiences you’ve had, whether good or bad, they are preparing you for tomorrow.

..Until next time

Peace comes through preparation.

Maneuvering a curve

A little time has passed since I last wrote anything.

Okay.. maybe it has been longer than “a little time” but it’s strange that things have kept me away so long. Without further adieu, I shall get straight to the point.  It seems as though I’ve been driving on the road for a year and it has been nothing but curves that I could not see coming.  It honestly feels like I’ve seen every possible obstacle one could overcome.  Sometimes, I imagine life is really a road with a ton of curves, but of course, not everyone maneuvers a curve the same way. The curvy road I happened to be on took me to a very dark place, a place that I had not encountered to this extent. Usually, it’s a “hi and bye” sort of a situation, seeing obstacles in passing. I had always found a way to get past them pretty quickly.

..Not this time

This year is when I really harnessed my inner strength as an individual. Society has always said, “you don’t understand because you haven’t been there”, when speaking of tough situations and overcoming them. Personally, I like to give people a glimpse of the portrait and hopefully their creative process can do the rest .  Allow me to quote the Great Mike Tyson, “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face”.

As I was pushed to the breaking point of every emotional fiber within my mind, I found that even as the curves continue to come, there is often several ways that we can make it past them safely. Hey, I understand frustration is all apart of it, but  there is much to be learned through facing those obstacles.  Fear of failure, the unknown, and incompetence can be tough pills to swallow I know. When maneuvering a curvy road, the best thing you can do is to remain calm. If you can manage to keep your cool, you allow yourself maximum opportunity for mental clarity. I will say that some people operate well within chaos, but that isn’t for everyone, to say the least. I had to understand that mistakes are opportunities, being afraid of failure does more harm than good. The unknown, a chance for us to walk into the darkness with hope of future light. Incompetence, the opportunity to become more organized every single day. Managing your emotions is easier said than done, but it can be done. Through winding down a curvy road, I found the strength and courage to go with a sense of calm and embrace the opportunity to encounter an obstacle. If it’s one thing I do know for certain, it is that you will encounter them in every facet of life.

Just don’t lose your cool.

When you fall, get up

There comes a time in life where we all stumble…

We’re human, none of us are perfect in this world.

We may try to be, but failure is all apart of life.

Those falls are where and when we build our character, looking deep within and pull forth the strength needed to keep going.  After all, it’s not like we can just sit there and watch the world pass us by. Some wish that were the case, but we would become nothing more than an obstacle for others to walk over or go around. If you pause to think for a second, it really rings true. We sit and watch everyone go by, we’re merely making it a little bit tougher for others. The clock always ticking, the years go by quicker, and people grow in separate directions. You see, I’ve failed once in life and allowed it to torment me for a couple of years, but things do indeed happen.

We have to remember that we have the chance to pick ourselves back up, whether it’s now or two years later, but it CAN be done with a little determination.  You fall in love, we fall out of love, we fall short, and we could fall flat. In order to walk, you must first fall and realize the pain in doing so. You could walk a million miles in life, but eventually you will fall, embrace it. When it happens, take a brief look at your surroundings and get up because the clouds will continue to roll by and the sun will rise somewhere every morning. In America, it’s growing closer to that time of the season, where leaves turned brown fall slowly from their limb in the trees. The change of seasons and the growth of an individual, realize and embrace it.

… Until we meet again

Who Are You?

Quite the question, isn’t it?

I believe we all have asked ourselves this question.

The script, we stare, it’s empty. Truly, it’s nothing more than improvisation, but for better clarity, we tend to write it down. You are asked to either draw a self-portrait or write about who you believe yourself to be. Casually, you begin to think, considering all of your memories past and present. Maybe a few stand out to form the words to an autobiography, or maybe those memories come with smaller images that allow you to piece together a portrait. Either way, you do think you have somewhat of an idea who you are.

A moment stirs within your brain, taking you back to a time where you had no worries. You asked yourself what you would like to be. Fast forward and you still might be asking yourself that question till this day.

So, you continue composing your works, it’s more of a tough task than originally believed to be. I think everyday is a chance to sneak a moment, possibly even an entire day to continue that work. Granted, that you do wake in the morning. Many times we walk past glass or mirrors and hope to catch a glimpse of who we are, but that’s only the beginning.

As agreed by most, you can only tell so much from appearance. The answer lies deep within, in the thought that truly brings about happiness. It could be anything, that is what makes the answer so special. We all have different answers of who we think we believe we are.

Few, are lucky enough to know who they are. Those that do, focus on helping others find that answer and begin to write the script progressively.

This will continue at a different time, look for your answer.

When To Be A Gentleman and When Not To.

I bet you’re wondering… huh?

Why this topic?  Well, it’s quite simple.

The other day one of my friends brought to my attention that I possess the ability to know when to be a gentleman and when to turn it absolutely off. I had to ponder for a moment, non in the literal sense of what he said, but whether it was a good thing or not.

I came to realize that this was indeed a very good thing..and you ask, “Why?”

Take a minute to step under my suspenders and ponder yourself.

When should YOU be a true gentleman in today’s society – everyday, every other day, never?  Always such a tough question. I’ll try to make this as brief as possible, but that’d require me to be very blunt, so please excuse the following haha.

It is quite easier to get in between a woman’s legs than it is to get in between her ears in today’s society.  Women will allow you penetrate their sexual emotions faster than you can their intellect out of fear.  There are specific reason for that, but I’ll detail that at a later time.

Why should allow yourself to be a gentleman when it’s so easy to bypass intimacy? Think about it for a second.

I could LITERALLY stick my thumb out and garner sexual attention faster than I could trying to “get to know” a lady.  Once again, it’s not all the ladies’ fault at all, but they are in contribution to the problem.

Should you allow yourself to be a gentleman when  most females continually write good males off as “too good to be true”? It is largely believed that men are getting progressively worse, but in the words of Malcolm X – “society can best be gauged by the condition of women in that society”. I personally, believe in his sentiments because after all, women are the teachers of curent and future generations.  Remember when I wrote about “The Under-appreciated Gentleman,” this is just a continuance of it. Chivalry is respected and recognized, but not readily available to every individual woman.

You see, you must take it on a case-by-case basis or you’ll quickly burn out of chivalrous gestures to women who’d rather take it physically. Women say they love gentleman, but are not properly equipped to receive one. Why? It is because the lack of intimacy has given up and coming men a pass to learn the patience and respect of women.

It comes full circle, but as you see, giving in one hand (literally) and taking in another.

With the lack of intimacy, there becomes a lack of gentlemen. It’s increasingly getting worse and for the gentlemen of today, you must learn how to accustom your methods to this.

Women, take your power to hone patience and run with it, please. Don’t allow us to question  becoming a gentleman, force it.
